KMess is an alternative MSN Messenger chat client for Linux. KMess is an alternative MSN Messenger chat client for Linux. It allows Linux users to chat with friends who use MSN Messenger in Windows or Mac OS. The strength of KMess is it's integration with the KDE desktop environment, focus on MSN Messenger specific features and an easy-to-use interface. MSN Protocol compatibility - Support for group chats with multiple contacts - File transfer support, both sending and receiving. - Picture transfer support - Full emoticon support. - Font and font color support. - See if a contact does not have you on their list. - See if a contact is typing a message by the "glowing" of the contact's image. - Start as invisible rather than online. - Hotmail support, with inbox count, new email notifications, and the ability to open Hotmail at the user's inbox. - Show a contact's MSN profile, and open the MSN search pages. - NetMeetingGnomeMeeting and GnomeMeetingGnomeMeeting invitations are supported. KMess interface - You can show or hide offline contacts. - You can show or hide the special "allowed" and "removed" groups to modify them from the contact list. - Organize the contact list by group or by online/offline status. - Groups show a count of the contacts online (i.e. "Friends (2/5)") - Chat window sidebar with an emphasis on contact images. Multiple contact will be displayed in the sidebar with a group-chat. - Alternating and flashing taskbar entry to inform of a received message. - A background picture was added to the contact list. - Emoticons are also shown in the contact list. - Internationalization support, with translations in: English, Dutch, German, Spanish and Chinese. KMess extra's - Display timestamps when contacts send messages. - Create a "compact" chat format to reduce the size of the chat. - Text can be formatted with /italic/, _underlined_, and *bold*. - Make contact messages appear in a particular font and color. - Make contacts appear with a particular name, overriding the contact's own name. - Specify images for contacts manually. - Configure the sound and popup notifications for each contact. - An "Away with Autoreply" status that will reply to contacts with a user-specified away message. - Groups can be reordered. - Support for multiple user profiles. - A custom GPLed emoticon set. - The ability to use different emoticon themes. - Chat logging with full markup. - Chat logs can be ordered in subdirectories by day, week, or month. - Auto-login, either at the setting page for from the commandline (with "kmess --autologin you@hotmail.com" for example).
